2009 GPN/Nexus Internship Scholarship

There is still time to get your applications in for the 10th annual GPN/Nexus Intern Scholarship. The deadline is Oct. 31, 2008. The GPN and Nexus Corp. scholarship recognizes a college student who is studying horticulture and has successfully completed a greenhouse internship.

The 10th annual GPN/Nexus intern Scholarship winner will receive:

A check for $3,000; his or her photo on the cover of GPN; an article about him or her in the January 2009 issue of GPN; an expense-paid trip to 2009 OFA Short Course; and a Short Course registration, compliments of OFA

To be considered for this scholarship, the student must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled in a four-year accredited university during the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 academic years
  • Be working on a floriculture-related undergraduate degree
  • Have completed a greenhouse internship in 2008
If all requirements are met, applicants should send the following to the address listed below:
  • A cover letter stating what university the applicant attends and requesting consideration for the scholarship.
  • A letter of recommendation on university letterhead from the applicant's academic advisor.
  • A minimum 1,000-word essay describing the intern experience including who the applicant interned for, what his or her responsibilities were and what the applicant learned.

2009 Great Hill Horticultural Foundation Internship

Great Hill Horticultural Foundation is offering a summer internship opportunity to a qualified individual seeking work experience and hands on training in nursery stock management and horticulture. Applicants must have completed related course work or have acquired practical experience in horticulture or a related field AND must be competent in the use of landscape equipment, have an interest in plants, and the ability to work independently. Intern will work primarily in our fields helping to transplant trees and shrubs, manage pests, and gain further knowledge of the management of field-grown plant materials. Opportunities exist to work on current foundation research projects gathering data, photographing, and reporting results. College credit may be arranged by the student and is encouraged.

Workweek is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Temporary position: End of May to September
Starting pay: $ 9.50 / hr
