1. What is the New Hampshire Plant Growers Association?
The NHPGA represents over 200 horticultural and allied trade businesses – part of the vibrant $522 million environmental horticulture industry in New Hampshire. Our members own and operate nurseries, greenhouses, garden centers, sod farms, and florist shops, and offer landscape design and installation services throughout the state. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ornamental horticulture in the Granite State.
2. How do I become a member?
To become a NHPGA member, simply fill out the 2008/09 membership application and send your payment along to: NHPGA, 4 Karacull Lane, Pittsfield, NH, 03263. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call us at: (603)435-6785.
3. Where can I find a local retailer of plants?
We have created an interactive New Hampshire map locating all of our NHPGA retail members including local contact information. The map divides New Hampshire into regions to help you find beautiful, locally grown plants with just a click.
4. Do I have to be a University of New Hampshire student or member of the NHPGA to apply for an NHPGA student scholarship?
No. While the majority of student scholarships given have been offered to UNH two and four-year students, scholarship applications are also accepted from children of NHPGA members currently attending a 2-4 year green industry program.
5. What is the NH Horticultural Endowment Fund?
In 1997, the New Hampshire Plant Growers Association founded the New Hampshire Horticultural Endowment – the only grant maker in New Hampshire that awards funds to individuals engaged in ornamental horticultural research and education. Annual grants range from $2,000 - $5,000 and are awarded in a competitive application process. Access the application form here.
6. Who is eligible to receive a NH Horticultural Endowment Fund research grant?
Guidelines specify that individuals submitting research proposals must be faculty members, students, or qualified employees of institutions engaged in horticultural research education. Projects may include (but are not necessarily limited to): basic or applied research and relevant equipment; and travel, training, speakers, or events when affiliated with research. In keeping with the wishes of our donors, projects should benefit the ornamental horticulture industry in New Hampshire and secondarily the industry at large.
7. How often are NHPGA student scholarships and NH Horticultural Endowment grants awarded?
Both student scholarships and NH Horticultural Endowment grants are awarded annually. Applications for the Horticultural Endowment grant must be received by October 15 and student scholarship applications by December 1.
